A significant number of primary aged pupils in school today will live to see the next century. Many are already aware of, and responding to, the environmental, social and health related challenges that have arisen for us all. Despite its relatively small land area and large population compared with other countries, 9% of Great Britain is part of a national park. During their lifetime pupils will visit and interact with national parks and have an important role to play in determining their future role.
The aim of this exciting new resource is to provide teachers with the background knowledge, materials and learning and teaching ideas to enable pupils to understand the importance of national parks in their lives now and in the future. It is particularly focused on upper Key Stage 2, but can be used and adapted for other teaching stages. There are 11 enquiries which look at different aspects of National Park, and how they are important and relevant to young people now and in the future.
These resources have been produced by educational consultant David Weatherly and the Education Teams of the UKs National Parks.
