THE ESTÉE LAUDER COMPANIES UK & IRELAND ANNOUNCES £500,000 COMMITMENT TO RESTORATION OF UK’s NATIONAL PARKS

  • Company becomes a Founding Partner of an innovative nature restoration facility aiming to help fund restoration projects in all 15 UK National Parks
  • Funding provides for the development of scalable projects across the UK National Parks together with promotion of knowledge sharing and learning

The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) UK & Ireland today announces details of its £500,000 commitment to seed-fund pioneering UK nature restoration projects over a period of five years.

ELC UK & Ireland is a key funder of nature restoration facility ‘Revere’, delivered by a partnership between Palladium and National Parks UK, designed to enable the restoration of natural habitats at scale in the UK’s National Parks using private capital. ELC’s funding comes as part of its community and social investment in the wider regions in which the company operates.

The UK’s National Parks are 15 diverse landscapes covering 10% of UK land and containing almost a quarter of the UK’s peatland. Each National Park harbours unique biodiversity and restoration needs. ELC’s partnership with Revere will help test new ways of restoring nature where it is needed most – from supporting ambitious national targets for peatland restoration and woodland creation, to nature recovery to protect iconic local species.

ELC is providing funding for the development of scalable projects across the UK National Parks, which will create new income streams for farmers and landowners seeking to improve the quality of landscapes and support biodiversity, through the sale of ecosystem services. Most importantly, ELC’s support will promote knowledge sharing and learning – enabling other land managers and owners to learn from projects supported under Revere.

Sue Fox, President of Estée Lauder Companies UK & Ireland said: “Our five-year commitment to support Revere’s nature-based climate initiatives in the UK’s National Parks underlines our desire for decisive action on climate change. This partnership is focused on helping to protect and restore the UK’s most precious ecosystems through pioneering nature restoration projects designed to combat climate change and the biodiversity crisis. We are delighted to work with National Parks UK, Palladium and the other founding partners.”

Gordon Watson, Chair of National Parks Partnerships and CEO of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park said: “With the spotlight firmly on COP26, it is more important than ever that we highlight the crucial role that the UK’s National Parks can play in fighting the impacts of climate change. The Estée Lauder Companies UK & Ireland’s commitment to our work through Revere will help us to achieve our nature restoration ambitions at the scale and pace we urgently need.”

Andrew Sutherland, Palladium’s Director, Nature-Based Solutions, added: “Through this five-year commitment, The Estée Lauder Companies UK & Ireland is making a real contribution to piloting and scaling innovative approaches to nature restoration through Revere. This leadership will result in new, pioneering approaches to restoring nature across the UK National Parks taking us closer to the scale and pace of action that the climate emergency and biodiversity crisis demands.”

💭You might have heard of biodiversity, but what does it actually mean?

It’s the variety of life around us from plants and insects in a meadow to birds, mammals, fungi and the tiny organisms we can’t even see.

But it’s not just a list of species - it’s the intricate web of relationships between them, and our National Parks are home to an incredible diversity of life.

Protecting biodiversity means protecting that web of life.

Has the rain reached you yet? 🌧️

A change in the weather is making its way across our National Parks. And with it comes a different rhythm to the landscape - changing how our surroundings look, sound and feel.

The sound of rain. The smell of wet earth. The air feeling fresher. Wildlife finding shelter.

What do you notice most when the rain arrives?

Just goats being goats. 🐐

These incredible animals call the Valley of Rocks in @exmoornp home - scaling walls and cliffs, grazing on the rich meadows and, occasionally, blocking the roads!

They’re a wonderful reminder of why our National Parks are so important, providing a home for such a diverse range of wildlife.

Have you ever spotted one?

Look out for us at the cinema. 🎬🌳

Our latest Wild Spaces episode, screening before selected films, takes you to Northumberland National Park. Their team, alongside farmers, landowners and volunteers, is working together to create healthier, more resilient landscapes through woodland creation and hedgerow planting.

It’s a story of partnership, long-term thinking, and the small actions that can have a lasting impact.

💭You might have heard of peatland, but what exactly is it and why does it matter so much?

Peatlands are our natural climate allies. They store vast amounts of carbon, support rare wildlife, improve water quality, reduce flood risk and preserve thousands of years of archaeological and cultural history.

Some of the UK's most important peatlands are found within our National Parks, making them critical places for tackling the climate and nature crises.

Across the UK's National Parks, peatland restoration projects are helping damaged peatlands recover, benefiting both nature and people.
